my lupin/pettigrew/dumbledore theory

I have a small theory that involves Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Albus Dumbledore.

Ever since Volde *cringe* You Know Who endowed Wormtail with a shiny new silver hand, many HP theorists have suspected that this new appendage will be the eventual downfall of Lupin, since he is a werewolf.

First off, I think it should be noted that the legend of silver being deadly to werewolves is common but is not always the case in every culture or story. Sometimes there is a very specific way you must use the silver in order to kill the werewolf, and in some tellings and cultures, silver does nothing to harm the beast so the whole silver thing is not universal. So we must keep this in consideration when thinking about this theory, because you never know what path of this myth that JKR is going to take in her own story.

And now, onto my theory...we learned in Book 1 that Dumbledore was a noted alchemist right alongside his good buddy Nicholas Flamel. Alchemy is the medieval practice of turning metals into gold, right? Well, let's envision a tense battle scene between members of the Order of the Phoenix (including Dumbledore, of course) and a handful of Voldy's most trusted and powerful Death Eaters. Let's say Voldy has personally asked Wormtail to go after Lupin, hoping that the silver would somehow kill him. It would make sense to make Lupin a prime target of Voldy's, because after Sirius, Dumbledore, and Mr. & Mrs. Weasley, Remus is one of the adults closest to Harry and we all know how Voldy likes to prey upon those who care for Harry the most. Let's say that Wormtail senses an opportunity to go for Lupin, and he does...but in steps Dumbledore, who uses his expertise in alchemy to change Wormtail's silver hand into gold, rendering it unable to harm Lupin.

I know that this scenario has a very small chance of happening, but I just thought I'd mention it to ease the fears of all the Lupin fans (me being amongst them!) so that they don't all believe that it's hopeless for dear old Moony.

Please tell me what you think of my theory, or if you have anything to add, please comment with it! And if you are in any other HP/HP theory-related communities that you think might like to discuss my theory, please let me know so that I can join and cross-post and start up a fresh discussion. Thanks!

I don't think Peter's hand is made out of actual silver, it just looks like silver.

"Voldemort raised his wand again and whirled it through the air. A streak of what looked like molten silver hung shining in the wand's wake."-Goblet of Fire, page 649.

I admit that later JKR says '[Wormtail] stared in disbelief at his silver hand' but I think that's a metaphor. More likely is that it's symbolism.. Wormtail will kill Remus, but not because his hand is made of silver. Not to mention that at one point (can't remember the page number) in OoTP Sirius is throwing away his mum's stuff and looks at some silver goblets, with Remus standing there and not being sick, so I think silver only affects werewolves when they're in wolf form. Also, are you sure that Dumbledore is an alchemist, and not just friends with one?
